Blemishes of any and all kinds devour me.
Pimples, scabs, scars and sores
Cover my face and the blades of my shoulders.
I am disgustingly hideous.
My hair is a greasy, tangled mess,
I've gnawed my fingernails ragged.
He always said to "Stay beautiful and keep it ugly."
I thought I was living by what he said.
But when I met her, I learned the phrase's true meaning.
And truly living by it now, a smile graces my face.
Because I found her.
Because she is the light in my darkest of times.
Looking at myself now, I wouldn't care what I looked like,
I would gladly give up whatever little physical beauty I may have,
Just to be with her and show her I love her.
Together we can create our own beauty.
In art, music, literature and love.
Looks will never matter
As long as we stay beautiful and caring on the inside.
